Announced at Google I/O today and available to buy immediately, the new Google Pixel 3A and Pixel 3A XL are more budget-friendly variants of the flagship Pixel 3 family.
From the moment Google's Pixel 3 and 3 XL went on sale, us reviewers were largely in agreement: The phones' software was far more impressive than the hardware.
Fair enough; Google is still pretty new at this "making its own devices" thing. But somewhere along the way, things took a turn. Shortly after launch, we started hearing about a litany of issues plaguing those Pixels, from increasingly sluggish performance to worrying battery life to camera-stability problems.
They still feature the superb Pixel camera that has been Google’s signature advantage, though they step down the spec to use plastic rather than glass for the rear, along with a more basic Snapdragon 670 processor, a limit of 64GB of maximum storage, and the omission of wireless charging and certified water resistance. The Pixel 3As do bring back the headphone jack, though!
Features
The Google Pixel 3A XL mobile features a 6.0" (15.24 cm) display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels and runs on Android v9.0 (Pie) operating system. The device is powered by Octa-core (2.2 GHz, Dual-core, Kryo 360 + 1.7 GHz, Hexa Core, Kryo 360) processor paired with 4 GB of RAM. As far as the battery is concerned it has 3000 mAh.
Other sensors include a Light sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Compass, Gyroscope. So, does it have a fingerprint sensor?
The most important thing is that the Pixel camera, replete with its Night Sight magic and one of the best portrait modes on phones, is making the transition to this more affordable device duo in full. Google’s sales proposition really is as straightforward as saying, “This is the cheapest Pixel camera you can get.
Summary
Don’t think of the new 3a XL as just Google’s cheap new phone — that’s selling it short. It might not have the same kind of horsepower as the original Pixel 3, but the 3a XL offers just about everything else that made last year’s models compelling at a steep discount. Even beyond the basics, the 3a XL features a few touches that fans have been clamoring for, like a headphone jack and the biggest battery Google has ever put into a Pixel. In building this phone, Google tried to bring some of its best work to a wider audience, and the work has paid off. Here’s hoping it doesn’t fall prey to the kind of performance issues that started to plague the Pixel 3 after launch.
