Samsung M20 review
Samsung new m series for the millennials is a phone that Is going to change the smartphone market for good as this south Korean tech giant just want to get back the market share that it had lost to smartphone companies like xiaomi, Nokia, vivo and oppo smartphone.
Samsung I think has not just given competition to xiaomi but has a premium smartphone maker it has really changed its market strategy toward india and I willing to make the sacrifice and it has bought the m20 series smartphone to do that.
Today, we have the more capable and higher priced of the two models, the Galaxy M20, for review. Let's find out whether Samsung's gamble has paid off, and whether it has finally managed to get the price, features, and performance right.
Samsung m20 design
Like the Galaxy M10, the M20 is mostly all plastic. The plastic rear panel wraps around the sides all the way to the front, meeting the glass panel that sits awkwardly on top. It gives the device a clean look from the back and it feels comfortable to hold.
it's virtually indistinguishable from the Realme U1 ₹ 11,999 (Review) or Oppo F9 ₹ 15,990 (Review), for example.
The design is pretty conflicting as the M20 looks really premium on the front with that lovely waterdrop display, but the back feels like it belongs in the sub-Rs 10,000 segments. The rear panel is also a fingerprint and smudge magnet, and you will find yourself wiping it clean often during the day.
The top and side borders around the screen do look narrow, but the sides of this phone bulge outwards considerably. This helps allow the earpiece to be placed within the frame, above the screen notch.
This phone comes with a 3.5 mm headphone jack and the way that they are able to make beautiful device is just what Samsung can do. No one can beat them in terms of design.
Samsung m20 performance and software
The Galaxy M20 gets a brand new Exynos 7904 that was recently announced by Samsung. This is an octa-core chipset based on a 14nm process and is equipped with two Cortex-A73 cores that run at 1.8GHz, and six Cortex-A53 cores that run at 1.6GHz. Samsung says the chipset has been optimized for India to deliver high-end multimedia capabilities. However, the spec sheet is not built for power users.
The Galaxy M20 ships with Android 8.1 Oreo with Experience UI 9.5 on top, which is disappointing as we were hoping to see new devices in 2019 to run Android Pie out of the box. Samsung has confirmed that the Pie update will roll out to the M10 and M20 in August, which is a while away. For now, consumers will have to make do with Experience UI 9.5 rather than One UI. Samsung says this is a new version of Experience UI that reduces bloatware and offers a simpler UI.
But the one thing that the company like Samsung has that as it produces its own processor as well as its Samsung ui it can optimize it to make it match the performance of a Snapdragon 660 processors which are been provided by the company to the mobile maker.
Samsung Galaxy M20 specifications
The Galaxy M20 is available with either 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage for Rs. 10,990, or 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for Rs. 12,990. We have a latter configuration for review, and a quick look at the market shows that many other models at this price level don't have as much RAM or storage, which could give Samsung an advantage.
The rest of the specs are more commonly found in this price bracket. The screen resolution is 1080x2340, with a density of 409ppi. There's a 5000mAh battery, and Samsung says that the bundled 15W charger will fill it up quickly. Ten minutes of charging is supposed to be enough to enjoy three hours of videos or 11 hours of music playback.
A primary rear camera is a 13-megapixel unit with an f/1.9 aperture, while the secondary camera has a 5-megapixel sensor and 120-degree field of view. The front camera has an 8-megapixel resolution. Dual VoLTE is supported, and you can use LTE on either SIM at any time.
Samsung m20 camera performance
The camera app is easy to use and well laid out. Most options and modes are within easy reach, and it's always nice to be able to begin recording video with a single tap. We found that the camera was quick to lock focus and there didn't seem to be much shutter lag. There's a selector for the two cameras right above the shutter button, but it's easy to forget which camera is selected. The app remembers what you were using last, so it doesn't default back to the primary camera each time it's opened.
One noteworthy quirk is that the Live Focus mode only works on faces. You can't use it to get a depth effect on shots of ordinary objects like you can on virtually every other phone. There's a beautification mode but no AI enhancement, which is something that other brands, especially Honor, are using to differentiate themselves.
Samsung m20 battery life
Pure hardware aside, Samsung has done a phenomenal job at optimizing the Galaxy M20 for better battery life. The 5,000mAh cell lasts forever and on an average, the phone lasted two days of use for me. Now, your use case may vary, but with multiple social media apps, Reddit, emails and more, I could still consistently get almost eight hours of screen on time. With a video loop test, the phone managed 20 hours before shutting down.
Samsung has done a phenomenal job at optimizing the Galaxy M20 for better battery life.
You’d expect a phone with a 5,000mAh battery to take forever to charge. However, the phone supports fast charging over the USB-C port and takes just about 2 hours 15 minutes to get fully charged from scratch using the in-box charger.
Final Verdict
Should you buy the Samsung Galaxy M20?
The Galaxy M series is Samsung's bid to start something fresh, something different from what the Galaxy On and Galaxy J series offered in the past. And the Galaxy M20 looks like a step in the right direction. The phone offers a terrific Infinity-V waterdrop display and a long battery life, two features that are pretty important in this segment. The ultra wide-angle camera also offers something unique in this segment, and it is worth considering the M20 if these are the features you're looking for.
Unlike some of its current competitors, Samsung has immense brand power. A lot of people might have chosen other options recently based on specifications and features, so having closed that gap, Samsung stands to regain a lot of the customers it has lost. Buying a Samsung phone doesn't feel like a gamble in the way that it might with less established brands. The Korean giant is capitalizing on this in its Galaxy M-series marketing by underscoring its huge service network, spanning 1,650 service centers across over 6,000 talukas all over India.
So I think that this phone will change the way that people look at Samsung in a positive way and this phone is for the people who want to have your first phone so buy it be happy and be safe.
